A Room of Her Own: A Girl’s Bedroom Refresh
There’s something sweet about designing for your own kids. For years, my daughter shared a room with her twin brother. And as the only girl with three brothers, she’s pretty much surrounded by boys at all times. When the opportunity came for her to finally have a room of her own, I knew this wasn’t just about moving furniture around. It was about creating a space that felt like hers.
Starting With What We Had
The room itself already had a great foundation. White walls with a navy accent wall gave us a clean, classic base to work from. And honestly, navy is such a good long-term color — especially for a sporty girl. Instead of starting over, we layered onto what was already working. Because good design doesn’t always mean gutting everything. Sometimes it just means refining.
Mixing Sporty + Sweet
She’s athletic. Competitive. Always on the move. But she’s also still a girl who loves some pretty details. So we leaned into that balance by introducing soft pinks alongside the navy. The combination feels strong but feminine. Structured but warm. It reflects her personality in a way that feels natural — not forced. Pink with blue can feel classic, but when you choose the right tones, it doesn’t feel overly themed or childish. It just feels layered. Add in some vintage gold and some thrifted pieces and you’re set.
The Gallery Wall Moment
One of my favorite parts of the room is the gallery wall behind her bed. We found some great printable art on Etsy (I’ll link the ones we used below), which made it both affordable and personal. I love this route because you can customize a space without committing to expensive custom art. We also thrifted some of the frames which cut the price down as well. We chose prints that reflect her — things that speak to her interests, her personality, and this season of her life. The gallery wall anchors the bed and gives the room a focal point. It makes the space feel intentional instead of just decorated. And it’s something that can easily evolve as she grows.
Shop the Room
And if you’re thinking about updating a space in your own home — whether it’s a full remodel or a small room refresh — sometimes all it takes is layering intention onto what you already have. And I think she deserves it. 🤍
